Why We Exist

Independent mobility is essential for daily activities, allowing for social inclusion, participation, and equity. In 2017, the Canadian Survey on Disability reported an estimated over 2 million adult Canadians are limited in their daily activities due to a mobility disability. By 2050 it is estimated that mobility accessibility will affect 3.5 Million adults Canadians with disabilities. To address this issue, AccessMate is developed to address following specific problems for people with mobility concerns:

Individuals including those with disabilities

i: Lack of a specific navigation tool for people with mobility concerns

ii: Lack of accessibility information in urban areas for people with mobility concerns

Municipalities, cities, and institutions

i: Lack of mobile/web applications that store, visualize, and analyze the city’s geospatial data parallel to efficient maintenance and management of city infrastructures

ii: Lack of a map-based platform for collecting citizens feedback about city infrastructures
